PURPOSE:To improve the fuel consumption at idling by detecting a firing or misfire of an engine on the criterion of an angular position of a crank at which an engine or acceleration becomes maximum, advancing an ignition timing at the firing and delaying the ignition timing at the misfire. CONSTITUTION:Whether an engine is in idling or not is estimated by a throttle valve switch (at a step 61). A crank angular position RPMDEG at which an engine revolution speed or an acceleration of the engine speed measured in the preceeding ignition cycle becomes maximum is compared with 70 deg., for example (at a step 65), namely, whether a piston is before a top dead center or after it is estimated. If RPMDEG>70 deg., the firing in the preceeding cycle is estimated as achieved and the ignition timing is advanced at a step 66. If RPMDEG<70 deg., it is estimated that the engine is misfired and the ignition timing is delayed at a step 67. The quantity of fuel required for maintaining the engine at the same revolution speed may be thereby reduced. |
