This device has a pick-up appliance rotating on the surface of the silage in relation to the vertical silo axis and a tube, extending in the region of the silo axis, for delivering the silage, picked up by the pick-up appliance and conveyed in the direction of the silo axis, to a conveying apparatus provided in the region of the silo bottom. To prevent the access of air to the silo material, the tube is designed as a collapsible telescopic tube (9), the upper end of which is connected to the pick-up appliance (3) and is provided with an orifice (12) for picking up the silage (2). The tube (9) is movable up and down together with the pick-up appliance (3) according to the silo level, its lowest portion (9a) being arranged at a fixed location. In another version, the tube (24) consists of easily cuttable material which, mixed in small quantities with the silage, is biologically harmless, for example hard polyurethane foam, cardboard with or without a wax coating, lining materials provided with a binder and pressed, or the like, and the pick-up appliance (3) has an additional central milling or cutting device (25) for the tube (24). <IMAGE>
