A measuring device for measuring the thickness of blankets in printing presses has a housing which contains a measuring and display device such as a dial gauge, there projecting from the housing two pointed feelers which penetrate a blanket without damaging it, and which establish electrical contact with a metal surface below the blanket. A feeling device connected to the dial gauge is arranged between the feelers, and a current source is connected to the feelers in the housing via a lamp or another signalling device. When the two feelers and the feeling device are pressed against the surface of a blanket, the feelers pass through the blanket and an electrical connection is established outside the housing via the metal surface below the blanket, as a result of which the lamp lights up and the dial gauge gives a direct display of the thickness of the blanket.
