A connecting element is proposed which is suitable for the connection of profiles which touch one another in an abutting manner, for example window profiles, and is inserted into the cavity of a profile which consists essentially of a connecting bracket of the inner wall of the hollow profile or of its reinforcing profile and a screw which is inserted through the profile and passes through the connecting bracket, the connecting bracket being constructed approximately in a U-shape, having two studs, after which studs the two free limbs run towards one another in the shape of a roof, and the root of the connecting bracket being provided with a thread for the screw which spreads the two free ends of the limbs, and the studs latching into the recesses of the inner walls of the hollow profile or the reinforcement; or the connecting bracket being constructed such that the two limbs initially run towards one another and then away from one another, the ends of the free limbs latching into recesses of the inner walls or of the reinforcement, the screw additionally spreading the limbs.
