A security system has a hand-held truncheon including a transmitter (2), such as a radio transmitter, and a grippable control means at a handle portion (3) of the truncheon which the user can hold with a predetermined gripping force to maintain, or prevent, transmission to a supervisory equipment having a receiver. Release of the control, or imposition of a greater gripping force, changes the transmit/silent state of the transmitter to alert the supervisory equipment. A number of the truncheon devices may serve a single supervisory equipment and may have respective identifiable transmissions. Provision may be included to alert the user, if his grip is inadvertently released, prior to changing the transmit/silent state of the transmitter.
|
