The invention relates to a system for conveying and hooping plate-shaped ceramic formed bodies, especially roof tiles, which are stacked edgeways. The system comprises a feeding conveyor, a device for transporting the piles to a hooping device and a discharging conveyor which receives the hooped piles. The formed bodies (1), which arrive at the feeding conveyor (2) in a horizontal position, are stacked edgeways by a tipper (2) against one of the stops (4) of a backwards sloping intermittently circulating continuous conveyor (3). A raisable transfer unit (5) equipped with clamps (5) by the side of the pile (1) lifts the pile and transports it, in a vertical position, to the discharging conveyor (10). A wire guidance device (11), which is arranged at one of the front edges of the clamps (5), holds under tension two wires (15) which are connected to each other by means of a twisted loop (14), in the middle, perpendicular to the direction of movement of the pile (1') and pulls off the wires when the pile moves forward, forming a loop of separate coils (16) around three sides of the piles. When the wire guidance device (11) has been disengaged by twisting the pulled off wires, the loop is closed at the back of the pile (1'). <IMAGE>
