<p>Process for increasing the filling power of tobacco which comprises heating the tobacco at elevated temperatures while maintaining the OV and SV values of the tobacco substantially constant. Preferably, the tobacco is heated at a temperature of at least about 80oC in a closed system for a time sufficient to increase the CV value of the tobacco. The above described process avoids the use of foreign impregnants such as volatile organic liquids which may not be desired as additives to tobacco. Moreover, the use of foreign material adds to the cost of tobacco processing. </p> |
