<p>Solar water heating apparatus comprises a housing, an array of concentrators disposed in the housing for receiving incident solar energy and for heating a first fluid thereby, heat exchanger apparatus disposed in the housing for transferring heat from the first fluid to water and a pump for providing circulation of the first fluid through the concentrators and in thermal contact with the heat exchanger apparatus. The first fluid is maintained at atmospheric pressure. Each concentrator comprises a body 10 of transparent material receiving sunlight on an incident surface 34 and containing a plate 14, with absorbing surfaces 16, in a channel 20. The plate 14 is perpendicular to the incident surface 34 and receives sunlight on its surfaces 16 after total internal reflection at the surfaces 38 of the body 10. The first fluid flows through the channel 20.</p> |
