<p>The 25 metre diameter tower is mounted on the top of a multi-storey building. It consists of steel pillars, 5 metres thick, supporting the turbine and generator housing and the precipitation protection louvres. The air channelling system in the centre of the tower consists of an open-sided cylinder, rotated by a rail system, so that a number of profile blocks can provide a curved surface to divert the wind entering the cylinder into a vertical stream, with the min. of turbulence. The air passes through a shaft, turning two horizontally mounted 'propeller type' turbines. A semi-spherical or elliptical cowling on the top of the tower faces away from the outside wind direction to provide additional updraft. The generators and other equipment are installed in two workshop floors at the top of the tower.</p> |
