PURPOSE:To attain the miniaturization and high speed positioning by providing a head moved in the radial direction of a recording medium in parallel with the direction of straight line reciprocating movement of a carriage placed at the side of a disk recording medium and holding it to the carriage via a suspension and an arm. CONSTITUTION:The carriage 4 arranged to the side of the disk recording medium 11 is placed on a cylindrical guide rail 8 via a bearing 10 so as to be in straight line reciprocating movement freely in a direction A (A'). A head 1 is held to the carriage 4 via a suspension 2 and an arm 3 and in conducting a current to the coil 5 of a voice coil motor, the carriage 4 and the arm 3 are moved in the direction A (A'), the head 1 is moved in the radial direction of the disk recording medium 11 attended therewith and positioned on an object track. Thus, the length of the coil 5 is increased, the torque of the voice coil motor is increased, the high speed positioning is attained and the miniaturization is facilitated.
