PURPOSE:To perform size detection without arranging electric parts on a platen cover, by providing a luminous material on a platen cover side and arranging plural sensors on a copying machine body side. CONSTITUTION:The luminous material is provided on the original setting surface of the platen cover at the peripheral part to necessary width and plural photodetecting elements 4a-4k which shift in photodetection position and vary in the number according to the size of an original are provided in a pattern corresponding to the luminous material. When the platen cover is closed, an excitation energy generating device 3 is actuated. The photodetecting elements 4a-4k output analog signals according to the size and position of the mounted original and they are sent out to a signal converting circuit 11 through a comparator 10. The converting circuit 11 discriminates the original size of state of its mounting position and outputs the decision contents to a microcomputer 20. Consequently, the size detection is performed without arranging electric parts on the platen cover. |
