<p>1419114 Apparatus for removing oil from water BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 12 March 1973 [22 March 1972 27 April 1972] 13402/72 and 19555/72 Heading B1D An apparatusfor removing oil from water comprises rotary discs 1 (e.g. flat, smooth polyvinyl chloride discs) mounted on bearings positioned on radii of a circle, floats 5-9 and a scraper blade (e.g. of rubber or plastics) (not shown) associated with each disc, which blades scrape oil from the rotating partially immersed discs and discharge it via a channel (not shown) to a storage means (not shown). The apparatus may also comprise discs mounted on bearings which do not lie on radii of the circle. The discs 1 are rotated by a driven worm 3 engaging teeth in the discs 1. The apparatus may comprise means for maintaining the discs immersed to a desired extent, such means comprising a buoyancy tank communicating with the water, and a pneumatically operated valve which supplies air to the tank when the discs drop below the desired level, to expel water from the tank.
