PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a drum and to prevent roll contamination after the occurrence of a jam by bringing a cleaning device in contact with the drum during nearly one rotation of the drum right after a main switch is turned on, and separating and holding the brush on standby. CONSTITUTION:A fur brush 20A is supported freely rotateably on a shaft 24 and allowed to contact and leave the photosensitive drum through a spring 32 and a solenoid 33. The brush 20A contacts the drum during the one-rotation period T3 of the drum right after the main switch is turned on, and separated therefrom and held on standby. Further, when a copy start signal Sc or a copy end signal Sf is generated, the brush 20A contacts the drum during the one-rotation period T2 or T1 of the drum as well. Consequently, the time when the brush 20A contacts the drum is shortened to prolong its life and the brush contacts the drum immediately after the drum rotates after the jam is removed, preventing the contamination of the rolls. |
