PURPOSE:To enhance filtering treatment capacity and to prolong the life of a filter element, by storing sludge separated off to the outer peripheral side of a membrane filter in a cartridge using a hollow yarn membrane module in a non-regeneration type filter apparatus. CONSTITUTION:A filter element 33 consisting of a hollow yarn membrane module 45 formed by bundling a large number of linear hollow yarn membrane filters 44 cut at both ends thereof in a cylindrical form is received in a cylindrical casing 32 and the lower end openings of the filters 44 are directly communicated with the liquid outlet 43 provided to the lower part of the casing and the upper end openings thereof are communicated with the liquid outlet 43 through an annular chamber 46 and a water gathering pipe 47. A plurality of thus formed cartridge filters 23 are provided to the tube plate in a tank-type container in a detachable manner so as to be suspended thereform. A liquid to be treated such as radioactive solid waste storing pool water supplied in the container is passed through a filtering treatment chamber 48 from a liquid inlet 42 and transmitted through the filters 44 from the outside thereof to the inside thereof to be filtered. Removed impurities are sedimented and collected in the filtering treatment chamber 48 within the casing 32 as sludge and not diffused.
