The invention relates to processes in which two chlorine atoms of cyanuric chloride are substituted in two successive stages by alkylamino groups, operating in a reaction medium comprising water, an alkali metal hydroxide and an organic solvent for the cyanuric chloride. According to the invention, the yield and purity of the final product are improved by using a solvent which is substantially immiscible with water and effecting the first stage by adding the respective alkylamine to the reaction medium which contains all the alkali metal hydroxide stoichiometrically necessary for both stages.
