PURPOSE:To automate welding and to obtain weld beads having excellent weldability, by operating a traveling carriage and a welding head mounted thereon in accordance with the program of a specified operation mode. CONSTITUTION:A welding head 7 having a welding torch 11 is mounted on a traveling carriage 4. The operation mode of the carriage 4 and the torch 11 are determined from the height, horizontal directional position and oscillation width of the torch 11, the traveling speed of the carriage 4, the voltage, current and waiting time for welding, etc. Said mode is stored as it is or with partial change in a control device 12, thereafter the carriage 4 is moved along the groove line and the torch 11 is vertically moved and swiveled under the calculation in accordance with the operation mode, whereby weld beads are laminated successively and the welding is accomplished. |
