An outer pipe (a) is sealed at both ends, and contains a small dia. pipe (b) in its lower part. Both pipes (a,b) are bent to form an elbow; and pipe (b) is open at both ends. At the hot end of the heat pipe is a wick, followed by a semicircular sill in the lower half of pipe (a); and one end of pipe (b) is located in the sill. - At the cold end of pipe (a), a second semicircular sill holds the other end of pipe (b) and forms a reservoir of condensate, e.g. water shen the latter is used as the working liq.. Due to the pipe elbow, the water reservoir is always higher than the top of the sill in the hot end of pipe (a), so the water flows through the bore of pipe (b) from the cold end to the hot end. - Efficient sepn. of the working liq. from its vapour, e.g. water from steam, esp. at start-up.(0/3)
