The arrangement is intended for driving and braking the landing wheels (d) of a jet propelled aircraft. Each wheel shaft is coupled with a hydraulic motor/pump unit (h) which is connected in a closed circuit via flexible tubes to a hydraulic pump-motor unit coupled with a turbine (c) arranged in a closable (i) opening in a side wall of the jet nozzle (b), so that it is driven by the jet flow. - During take-off and before landing, the flap (i) is opened to drive the wheel, thus shortening the take-off distance and providing a smoother touch-down.
