COMPUTER PROGRAM PROTECTION METHOD AND APPARATUS

The system is for disc resident computer programs, protecting them against illegal access and checking for system compatibility. This is achieved with a detector which generates the program protection signal when a new disc is entered in the system. A noncompatible disc is rejected. A master detector identifies a master disc and the security code is recorded on a new master. The detector circuit includes a register which holds the system code and a comparator which compares the disc code with the system code and produces the enabling signal if they agree. A master detector generates the master signal when a master is present. This signal is recorded on the disc if it is identified as new.
