MOLD FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING

PURPOSE:To provide a mold for continuous casting which can decrease the transverse contraction phenomenon arising in an assembled mold consisting of side wall plates of which one end part is fixed in contact with the inside surfaces of adjacent inner side plates and the other part constitutes a free end extensible and contractable freely in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:Respective copper plates 2 constituting a casting mold 1 are fixed with their end faces 3 on one side in contact with the inside surfaces 4 of the adjacent other plates 2. Expansion spacings 6 are provided in a longitudinal direction in order to make the end faces 5 on the side opposite from the contact end faces freely expandable and contractable. Then the plates 2 can expand or contract by heating and cooling during the operation of the casting mold. The thermal expansion and contraction thereof are thus thoroughly absorbed by the movement of only the one end 5 of each plate 2 constituting the mold 1, and the respective mold walls maintain the exact shape and contact state without affecting each other.
