PURPOSE:To enable the surface of the light emitting pattern of a light emitting diode to combine with multiple optical fibers arranged in an optional configulation by a method wherein the surface of said diode is formed into an irregular configulation such as linear, rectangular, oval, rhombic, cross and the like. CONSTITUTION:A current strangulating part 8 with rectangular surface is provided on a current strangulating layer 2 comprising high resistance layer on a substrate 1 to embed an N-GaAlAs layer 3 therein. A light emitting part 9 is provided on a hole implanting electrode 6 making the opening shape rectangular similar to the surface of the current strangulating part 8. The implanting region of the electrons implanted in the P-N junction of the N-GaAlAs layer 3 and a P-GaAlAs layer 4 may be made rectangular to be the surface of said current strangulating part 8 implanting highly densified electrons improving the recombining effficiency of carriers to emit highly intensified light vertically forward from the entire region of the light emitting part 9. |
