PURPOSE:To enable the automatic mating of grooves at a high speed with high accuracy, by specifying the spacing between a moving means for a chuck support base disposed to one of a piar of the chuck support bases and a stopper thereof as well as the thickness of a stopper for mating grooves. CONSTITUTION:Rolls 3a, 3b are rotated to transfer tubes 1a, 1b until the tubes contact with a stopper 14 for mating grooves. The clamping mechanisms of chucks 4a, 4b are automatically closed thereafter. The stopper 14 is then moved downward. A piston 11 in a cylinder 12 is moved by oil pressure so that a sliding base 10 is striken against a stopper 13 for chuck support bases. As a result, the groove spacing between the tubes 1a and 1b is held at a prescribed spacing. The tubes 1a, 1b are kept rotated by a motor via the chucks 4a, 4b, and are welded by using a TIG torch 8. |
