<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the slips between rolls and to roll a plate material having good surface characteristics and shape by providing a device for applying contact pressure between work rolls and driving intermediate rolls to a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:A device 16 for applying contact pressure, by which work rolls 4 and driving intermediate rolls 5 are pressed to each other, is provided to a rolling mill provided with >=1 sets of roll clusters each consisting of the rolls 4, the rolls 5 and backup rolls 6. When pressure oil is supplied to hydraulic cylinders 17, the cylinders 17 attract work roll chocks 8 toward intermediate roll chocks 9, thereby increasing the contact pressure between the rolls 4 and 5. The peripheral speeds of the rolls 4 and 5 are detected in this stage, and both rolls are pressed to each other according to the difference between the peripheral speeds of both rolls, whereby the slip between the rolls is prevented. The shape of the rolled plate material is detected on the outlet side of the rolling mill and the roll crowns are adjusted with at least one of the rolls 4 and 5 according to the detected shape, whereby the shape of the plate material is controlled.</p> |
