Variable optical deflector device, application to a homing-head optical system.

Variable optical deflector enabling a parallel light beam of axis XX' to be deflected in a continuously variable manner within a cone whose apex C is at the point of convergence of the mean rays of the incident beam 1 and of the deflected beam 3, the latter remaining parallel to the direction X1X'1 of a mechanical control member 4 which is articulated about the point C by means of universal joints centred on C. The deflector in accordance with the invention is constituted by a prism 8, 9 of index n, of variable angle A and one of whose faces is solidly attached to the control member and is perpendicular to the direction X1X'1 of the latter. An optical deflector of the same type is used a missile homing system comprising a stabiliser using a gyroscope. Application: homing-head optical system for detecting targets. <IMAGE>
