Agent and process for neutral sizing

An agent for the neutral sizing of paper, cardboard, paperboards and other cellulose-containing materials consists of water, a solvent of infinite miscibility with water, especially isopropanol, a compound having a basic reaction, alkali metal aluminate and a sizing component. During the sizing with this agent, the fibre-containing suspension is first well mixed with the agent and then activated by neutralisation and cationised by a retention agent.
