For the production of partially reversed movements (step-back movement), the advantage of the invention is to be seen in the fact that the actuating angle for the forward and reverse movement is infinitely adjustable and that, by virtue of the individual displacement of the rocker shaft in the respective actuating systems, the ratio of the forward and reverse movement is also infinitely adjustable. Such movements are required to meet various technological conditions of the workpiece to be processed by the machine (flax-breaking machine, interruption to cutting in turning) and could hitherto only be achieved at high cost. The infinitely variable mutual offsetting and fixing of the cam discs on the input shaft make it possible to adjust the ratio of actuating time to dwell time and to adapt the actuating time and the actuating angle to the particular requirements, the actuating angle being altered in infinitely variable fashion by means of the individual or common displacement of the rocker shafts while the actuating time remains approximately the same.
