The invention relates to a hanging device, consisting of at least one tension element which can be of flexible or rigid construction. The object to be hung up is attached to the lower end of the hanging device. The device is to be designed in such a way that, when it is used, objects hung up in a freely suspended manner are protected from crawling insects. According to the invention, a vessel which is open at the top is mounted on the tension element in such a way that a liquid poured into the container surrounds the tension element on all sides in the region of the vessel. In this case, the tension element expediently passes centrally through the bottom of the vessel.
