In this digitally incremental position measuring device a rotatably mounted disc (1) of optically transparent carrier material is provided with an external stroke pattern ring (4), a central, flat wave winding (3) and an internal commutator segment ring (2). The detection of position is performed with the aid of the external stroke pattern ring (4) by modulating the luminous flux from a light source (12) to an optical receiver (13). The position measuring device permits detection of speed at the same time as detection of position. For this purpose, there is provided in the interior of the housing (11) a permanent magnet (9) whose magnetic field induces a speed-proportional voltage in the wave winding (3) as the disc (1) rotates. This voltage is tapped via the internal commutator segment ring with the aid of carbon brushes (5). In order to increase the number of turns of the wave winding (3), the disc (1) is preferably assembled from a plurality of individual coils coated with copper in each case, and plated-through holes (19, 20) are provided at the starting and end points of the commutator segment ring (2) and the wave winding (3). The combined position and speed sensor can be used, eg, in drive motors. <IMAGE>
