The line-measuring instrument has a housing (1) and a tracing indicator (5), so that it can be applied directly to the object having the line section to be measured. When the instrument is moved in a translatory fashion, the line section is measured with the aid of a drag wheel (28), the indicating error which occurs during measurement of curved lines and is to be ascribed to the distance from the drag wheel to the tracing indicator being compensated by a correcting device (36-43) which evaluates the pivoting movements of the drag wheel (28) and thereby undertakes a mechanical rectification of these movements. <IMAGE>
