The known pressure intensifiers for sealing-liquid systems of mechanical seals, which operate with stepped pistons, have the disadvantage of an additional outlay on maintenance and the risk of faults due to the wear of the various seals necessary here. The invention proposes a pressure intensifier which likewise operates on the principle of differential surfaces but manages without the fault-susceptible piston-cylinder system and without seals on moving parts. The pressure intensifier according to the invention is formed by a pressure vessel, the volume of which is divided into two gas-tight spaces by two flexible metal bellows of different diameters, the smaller-diameter bellows provided with a concentric guide and with its interior connected to the atmosphere being arranged in such a way as to allow displacement within the larger-diameter bellows, which is sealed off relative to it and can be pressurised from inside by the pressure medium, while the pressure vessel space surrounding the bellows communicates with the sealing chamber of the mechanical seal.
