PURPOSE:To measure the angle of optical rotatory power at a high accuracy with a good response with an expanded measuring limit in a simple construction by making light passing through a Faraday cell several times with a reflecting mirror. CONSTITUTION:Light polarized linearly with a polarizer 4 passes several times, for example, three times, through a Faraday cell 5 made up a Faraday coil 52, a Faraday glass 5 and the like as reflected with reflecting mirrors 15 and 16, rotated angularly according to a sample of a sample cell 6 and received with a detector 8 via a light detection element 7 whose polarization plane differs by 90 deg. from that of a polarizer 4. Current is supplied to a coil 52 through a counter 10 and a power amplifier 11 so that the output of the detector 8 becomes zero and the angle of optical rotatory power is measured. The passage of this light measure enables the measurement of the angle of optical rotatory power with limited supply of current to the Faraday cell and thus, the measuring range can be expanded with a simple construction to eanble the measurement of the angle of optical rotatory power at a high accuracy with a good response. |
