The box-type trap which has been developed and tested, and for which a patent has been applied for, is used for trapping wild animals without causing them an injury. In addition, by means of a sensible internal arrangement of the box-type trap, the trapped animal can readily be secured so that it can, for example, be marked, inoculated if necessary, and then set free again. The box-type trap provides the forestry authorities with a facility, inter alia, for the effective control of rabies. The box-type trap can be produced for any species of animal, in any desired size, as a complete structure or to be capable of being dismantled. The materials used can be wood, plastic, metal or similar structural materials. In the box-type trap, the box lid can be held partially open in any desired oblique position by means of a special pincer-like lever mounting. The animal is lured into the box-type trap with the aid of a particular bait. If it takes the bait, all that is needed in order to open the pincer-like mounting - because of the high leverage of the mounting - is a slight tugging at the bait. As a result, the box lid slips down and closes the box-type trap. In general, the dead weight of the lid is sufficient to keep the animal trapped. The lid can, however, also be increased in weight or allowed to latch by snap closure. A movable side part is provided in the box-type trap which can be raised from the outside by two cable pulls. As a result, the animal is secured so that it can be treated appropriately and then set free again. <IMAGE>
