Arrangement for the supercharging of an internal combustion engine, comprising a combination of an exhaust turbocharger compressor with a compressor forming closed working chambers mechanically driven by the shaft of the internal combustion engine, which compressor provides the supercharging when starting and in the lower speed ranges and on reaching a sufficient supercharging pressure of the turbocharger compressor is switched off and is restarted when this pressure falls. In a preferred embodiment all the charging air is led from the turbocharager compressor through the mechanically driven compressor, which when idling is fully open for the full delivery of charging air.
