In order to reduce the electromagnetic couplings in communication cables, the cable core of which is composed of SZ-stranded pairs of wires or star quads (1...12), a change of place of the pairs of wires or star quads within the respective stranding group (25) takes place at intervals during the two-stage stranding operation. This purpose is served by a place-changing device which is arranged between the first and second stranding stage and which consists of a stranding disc (26) pendulously movable in steps and having a perforated disc (28) arranged concentrically thereto and of a guide body preceding the stranding disc and one or more guide bodies (30, 32) preceding the perforated disc, the pairs of wires or star quads being guided slidably on said guide bodies.
