The invention relates to motor-vehicle steering-rack blanks, and the racks obtained from these blanks produced in the form of a unitary tubular piece, the thickness of which is not constant, by successive operations of cold-swaging and of drawing on a mandrel, from a tubular blank. It relates more particularly to rack blanks in which the part (2) suitable for forming the toothing is connected to at least one end (5) by a zone (4) whose thickness is less than the said part (2) suitable for forming the toothing. <IMAGE>
