PURPOSE:To improve the recording surface density in a simple method, by arraying the 1st and 2nd reproducing heads at the upstream side and the 1st and 2nd recording heads at the downstream side respectively to the traveling direction of a magnetic recording medium and in the direction of tape width. CONSTITUTION:For instance, the recording is carried out at the side B of a tape with its side A recorded already. In this case, the prescribed signal is recorded to a guide track T when the recording is carried out at the side A, and the level of the signal is detected by two reproducing head 18A and 18B, respectively. Two levels detected via an operational amplifier 26 are compared with each other and then supplied to a motor 29 via a phase compensating circuit 28. Then the position is controlled for a magnetic head 11 to ensure accurate tracking servo, and the side B is recorded by recording heads 13a-13e. In such a way, the overlap is avoided between tracks on both surfaces during the reciptocative recording. Furthermore, it is needed just to form heads of the same type on each head substrate. This device increases the recording surface density in a simple method. |
