A process whereby silanes of the general formula
<Chemistry id="chema01" num="0001"><Image id="ia01" he="6" wi="27" file="IMGA0001.TIF" imgContent="chem" imgFormat="TIFF" inline="no" /></Chemistry>are reacted in the presence of a catalyst with oximes or hydroxylamines in the stoichiometry of approximately one equivalent of oxime or hydroxylamine per mole of silicon-nitrogen linkage to give unexpectedly high yields of substituted silanes.
