In order to reduce the tendency towards cracks in the bottom of the teeth of saws by increasing the capacity of the saw to withstand dynamic loading, the inherent stresses in the saw blade are redistributed by plastic deformation in the region of the root of the bottoms of the saw teeth. According to a preferred form of embodiment, the deformation takes place from the sides of the saw blade, the tools being applied so that they are directed substantially straight against the roots of the teeth. In this manner an improvement of about 50% in the fatigue strength under dynamic loading can be achieved. The method is intended in particular for application to saws which are not intended to be resharpened, such as circular saws, band saws and frame saws which are equipped with hard metal or covered with stellite.
|
