<p>This application discloses a method of sterilization of open-top packages adapted to being filled with dairy products and the like, wherein the interior of each container is sprayed with a predetermined concentration of chlorine dioxide in the form of a fog.- The fog is given time to adhere to the walls of the container prior to being heated to activate the chlorine dioxide. After the heating operation, the interior is sprayed with an aqueous solution of an edible organic acid to react with the chlorine dioxide and complete the sterilization process.</p> |
