PURPOSE:To enable cooling or heating of a metallic strip in a relatively large temp. range with simple constitution, by changing the amt. of the heat medium in a roll thereby controlling the contact area of the inside surface of a chamber for contg. the heat medium of the roll and the heat medium. CONSTITUTION:A metallic strip 1 moves in contact with the outside circumferential part of a rotating roll 21 and is cooled or heated by the transmission of the heat generated between the strip and a heat medium 26. The medium 26 is admitted through a feed pipe 29 and a hollow pipe 27 into a chamber 25 for containing the heat medium and is discharged from the opening 32 of a discharge pipe 31 to the outside by the operation of a discharge pump 34. The pipe 31 here is made as a mechanism that rotates around the own axis. If the stagnating level in the opening 32 is changed by the rotation thereof, the level 26A on the top surface of the medium 26 moves vertically and the contact angel between the inside surface of the chamber 25 and the medium 26 in the roll 21 changes. The transmitting rate of the heat between the strip 1 and the medium 26 is thus changed and the cooling or heating of the strip 1 is controlled in a large temp. range. |
