Method of detecting a fungal or bacterial infection by contacting a sample to be tested with (A) a blood cell lysate from a crustacean or an insect and (B) a detector substance in the form of a peptide compound having a specific terminal group, which through the enzymatic action of a blood cell lysate obtained from such an animal and activated by a bacterium or a fungus may be cleaved off to form a physically or chemically detectable compound.
