PURPOSE:To reduce the degradation of horizontal transfer efficiency, and to improve the quality of a picture of an image pickup even when the number of picture elements increases by each setting up of horizontal shift registers to a plurality of the number of picture elements in the horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:A signal charge detecting circuit 5 is set up between the horizontal shift registers in which photosensitive sections 1, transfer gates 2, vertical shift registers 3 and the horizontal shift registers 4, 6 are arranged symmetrically while using the center of the number of picture elements in the horizontal direction as an axis. Signals are transferred to the horizontal shift registers, and extracted as signals, which are changed into a series, from the signal charge detecting circuit 5 so that signals are transmitted from the horizontal shift register 4 and signals are transmitted from the horizontal shift register 6 by clocks transmitted from a horizontal transfer drive circuit. The number of transfer in the horizontal direction may be halved through division by the half of the number of picture elements in the horizontal direction, and a transfer rate is also halved through division. |
