Apparatus employing a saturated volume of extinguishing gas emitted by an extinguisher 6 actuated under the effect of a pressure exerted by the presence of a casualty on a sensitive plate 8. It is composed of a chamber 1 made from non-flammable material which is closed at the front by a curtain 2 made of fire-resistant fabric strips which allow the casualty to pass his/her hands through, the extinguishing gas being admitted into the said chamber 1 via a diffuser box 15 comprising a perforated-grid discharge and an internal metal-chip packing which are intended to reduce its pressure so as to prevent any risk of burning which may be caused by the low temperatures generated by the release of the said extinguishing gas. Apparatus intended, in particular, to lessen the seriousness and the consequences of burns which are caused accidentally to the hands of operators handling inflammable liquids. <IMAGE>
