PURPOSE:To realize bright display, to display various colors clearly, and to obtain high contrast between a color display part and a specular surface seen in black like an undisplayed part by providing a display body layer capable of controlling a transparent and a scattering mode on the back of a dichroic mirror and further providing a specular surface reflecting plate on its back. CONSTITUTION:When the dichroic mirror 2 allows green light to pass and the display body layer 3 is in scattering mode, white light incident to a panel 1 transmits green light and reflects purplish red light in complementary color. Part of the transmitted green light is scattered out by the display body layer 3. The light transmitted through the layer 3 is reflected by the specular surface reflecting plate 5 and scattered out when transmitted through the layer 3 again. Therefore, the green light is prevails over the purplish red light when the panel 1 is viewed from the front, and this part is seen in green. When the layer 3 is in transparent mode, the specular surface is seen nearly in black in comparison with a part in scattering mode. The display body layer 3 uses liquid crystal or ferrodielectric transparent ceramic. |
