PURPOSE:To obtain a low-fuel-cost and low-pollution engine by projecting a part of the upper face of a piston and inserting the projected part into the combustion chamber of a cylinder head for compression when the piston is risen toward the top dead center for generating turbulence. CONSTITUTION:A projection 8 is provided on a part of an upper face 7 of a piston 6, and a combustion chamber main body 10 consisting of a base part 14 of a cylinder head 3 and a cover part 9 with an almost convex section is positioned above each cylinder 5 for constructing a combustion chamber 16. When the piston 6 is risen to the combustion chamber base part 14 toward the top dead center, the projection 8 is inserted into the combustion chamber 16, and the gas in the cylinder 5 is jetted into the combustion chamber 16 through a gap 18, and turbulence is generated in the initial flame of combustion or the compressed gas in a part where the combustion is not spread for promoting the combustion. This construction permits to obtain a high output of combustion efficiently in the whole area of revolution and reduce noxious components in exhaust gas. |
