METHOD FOR REPRODUCING COLOR PICTURE

PURPOSE:To attain excellent color reproduction, by separating a picture region and a character region in the unit of a block, performing different color signal processing at each region and assigning a suitable color to each picture element. CONSTITUTION:A picture discriminating circuit 30 obtains a difference between the maximum and the mimimum values of the density level at each component from the content of an input side block memory 22 and discriminates whether each block belongs to the picture region or the character region by comparing the difference with a prescribed value P. Further, a signal processing circuit selecting circuit 31 selects either an output of a color signal processing circuit 24-1 of the picture region or an output of a color signal processing circuit 24-2 of the character region based on the result of discrimination of a picture region discriminating circuit 30 and stores the result to an output side block 23.
