PURPOSE:To obtain a silver halide photosensitive material sensitized to high sensitivity without deteriorating image quality and staining, and adaptable to high speed processing, by incorporating a cyanine dye having a specified general formula in a monodispersed emulsion. CONSTITUTION:At least one silver halide emulsion layer is formed on a support to form a photosensitive material, and the emulsion layer contains silver halide grains of which >=95% grains have grain diameter within + or -40% of wt. or number average grain diameter, and at least one of compds. represented by the shown formula in which R1, R2 are each optionally substd. alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl; R3 is optionally substd. 2-6C sulfoalkyl; X<-> is an anion; Z1, Z2 are each a non-metallic atomic group needed to complete an optionally substd. benzene ring; and n is 1 or 2. These sensitizing dyes are dissolved in an org. solvent soluble in water, such as methanol or ethanol to add them to the silver halide photographic emulsion. They are added by 15-200mg per mol of silver halide. |
