The fireguard includes a layer or tube (27) of a silicone compound which is positioned around the hose (10), and a metal shroud or sleeve (28) which encloses the layer (27) of silicone compound. The silicone compound (27) and the shroud (28) protect the hose (10) at normal temperatures and for a short length of time at a high temperature. In the event the high temperature persists for a length of time, the silicone compound (27) decomposes to a layer of silica ash, which is held in place between the shroud (28) and the hose (10), and forms a heat insulation. The shroud (28) is preferably flexible so that the hose (10) may be bent, and the fireguard preferably also includes another layer (31) of the silicone compound and a collar (32) around each hose fitting. |
