PURPOSE:To achieve the low voltage and long life span of a display discharge tube provided with a cathode that contains a metal oxide material with electric insulation though its work function is small and the frictional wear caused by ion bombardment is small, and to remove unevenness of the display brightness and eliminate the need for the high temperature heating process when a cold cathode for the display discharge tube is manufactured. CONSTITUTION:One-50wt% >=1 kind of organometallic compd. selected from metallic alkoxides including at least one kind of alkaline earth metallic element, and carboxylic acid salts, 5-95wt% organic solvent such as alcohol or ester, are mixed with at least one selected from higher alcohols having high boiling points, glycerides, amino acid, and glycidols to obtain a liquid or paste mixture. The mixture is applied to a cathode substrate 2 with at least a part contacting with an emitter layer 3 made of copper. Said organometallic compd. is decomposed by heating, thus an amorphous emitter layer consisting of a material contg. at least one kind of alkaline earth metallic oxide is formed on the cathode substrate. |
