PURPOSE:To prevent abnormal noise from generating during the shifting operation to a reverse gear position by a structure wherein a synchronizing device is provided between a coupling interlocking with the selective shifting operation of the reverse gear position and a forward gear adjacent to said coupling. CONSTITUTION:When a shift lever is shifted to the reverse gear position, a coupling sleeve 26 is shifted leftward. At this time, even the input shaft 2 and the coupling sleeve 26 rotate themselves due to inertia force, a third speed gear 10, a balk ring 32 and the coupling sleeve 26 synchronize with one another due to the clutch action between the conical clutch face 10a of the third speed gear 10 and the conical face of the balk ring 32, resulting in bringing the input shaft 2 to a standstill. After that, the reverse gear is brought into engagement under the state that the input shft 2 is at a rest. Consequently, no abnormal noise is generated during the shifting operation. |
